Indian Lawyer Lalit Bhasin takes over as Inter-Pacific Bar Association President
5.3.2012 (UNI) Senior Lawyer, Mr Lalit Bhasin, has been appointed as the new President of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA), an association for business lawyers which focuses on the Asia Pacific region.
Mr Bhasin will take over the responsibilities from Mr Shiro Kuniya of Japan.
The appointment of Mr Bhasin was made today on the concluding day of the four day IPBA conference being held here.
Mr Bhasin, Managing Partner, Bhasin & Co, Advocates, is an eminent Indian lawyer who is well known for his litigation skills and leadership abilities in the legal and business community across the world. He currently holds the position of Vice-President at Bar Association of India, President of Society of Indian Law Firm (SILF) and Chairperson, Film Certification Appellate Tribunal of India.
Mr Bhasin is also the Chairman of the Services Export Promotion Council established by the Ministry of Commerce and a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration. A graduate from Delhi University, he joined the ranks of the IPBA as its founder member in 1991.
In his 50 years of career , Mr Bhasin has won several accolades and honors, which includes the Indira Gandhi National Unity Award, 1991, the Plaque of Honour given by the Prime Minister for his outstanding contribution to the Rule of Law in 2002, the National Law Day Award given by the President of India in 2007 among others.
The IPBA Conference which was held in New Delhi from Feb 29-March 4 drew more than 900 lawyers from 60 countries across the globe. UNI
